What most people don't know is that The Elks Organization were instrumental in lobbying for the recognition that eventually became an official holiday for the nation in 1916. Unfortunately, for most, this holiday has faded from most official calendars as another day of the week. We celebrate this day, as all good Americans should, but we have moved it, for scheduling reasons to the Saturday before Flag day every year.
