Manuel “Manny” Esteban represents the 16th Legislative District in Suffolk County. He is an accomplished community leader, attorney, business owner and Eagle Scout.

Manny was born in Astoria, Queens to immigrant parents from Cuba and Colombia. He is fluent in both English and Spanish and is the first Hispanic American elected to service in the 16th L.D. Since taking office in January 2022, he is proud of what he has been able to accomplish. His goal continues to work towards ensuring that our community remains a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.

As county legislator, he believes that county government’s top priority is to provide for public safety. He is a strong supporter of law enforcement and first responders, who keep the residents safe. He oversaw the reinstatement of ShotSpotter, which helped to improve public safety and cracked down on gun violence in the communities. He has also fought to reduce the cost of county government, stimulate the local economy, improve water quality and protect our environment by preserving open space.

Manny is a lawyer licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey and before the U.S. District Courts. He earned his Juris Doctor with honors from Touro Law Center, where he received three CALI Awards. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, magna cum laude, from the City University of New York. As an attorney, he has used his legal training to provide pro bono services to those in need.

In addition to being an Eagle Scout, Manuel is also a Scout leader. He also served as a lifeguard and a first responder; during that time, he performed three water rescues and successfully used CPR and mouth-tomouth resuscitation to revive a person on the boardwalk at Brighton Beach.

He is also a published poet, a New York City Marathon finisher and has competed in the New York City and Montauk Triathlons.

He resides in East Northport with his wife, Mercedes, and their seven children.
