David Gurfein (Candidate, NY-03) Named to NRCC's "Young Guns" Program

David "Bull" Gurfein, candidate for New York's 3rd Congressional District, was selected for the NRCC's "Young Guns" Program -- one of only 32 challengers nationwide to receive the distinction, and a strong indication of the national organization's commitment to retiring Steve Israel in 2016.

This week, the National Republican Congressional Committee selected David “Bull" Gurfein to be a member of the 'Young Guns' program. He is one of only thirty-two candidates throughout the entire 435 districts nationwide to be placed ‘On the Radar.’ ‘On the Radar’ is the first level of the Committee’s ‘Young Guns’ program which determines which candidates the national party will aid in the general election next year.

“This will be an extremely competitive race. However, the National Republican Party's assessment of our race and acknowledgement with this honor reinforces our belief we will win,” Gurfein confidently exclaimed. “Americans are tired of ineffective career politicians. Internationally, threats from Islamist terrorists continue to escalate, raising well-founded concerns here at home; Nationally, partisan politics are tearing at the fabric of our Nation, hindering our ability to work together; and locally, the tax burden on Long Island goes unabated, placing an undue strain on hard working households. It is time for a change,” said Gurfein

“These thirty-two candidates all provide a stark contrast to their liberal opponents, whose support of bigger government, more spending and President Obama’s job-destroying agenda have steered our country down a dangerous path,” said NRCC Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR). “With working families still struggling in this weak economy and our national security under increasing threats, we must elect more Republicans to Congress who will work to strengthen our nation. I am confident that these candidates will continue to work hard for their communities and build strong campaigns as we head into the election year.”

‘On the Radar’ is the first of three levels in the ‘Young Guns’ program. As a participants in this program, Gurfein and his team will have the Committee working closely with them to ensure their campaigns remain competitive. In the 2014 election cycle, the program helped elect 45 new Republican Members to the 114th Congress.

Gurfein grew up in Great Neck and now calls Manhasset home. He led Great Neck South to it's first and Undefeated Football Season while leading the charge to permanently retire the school's Confederate Flag. He is a U.S. Marine who enlisted as a Private and retired as a highly decorated Lt. Colonel. He served throughout the world as an Infantry Officer to include operational tours in Panama, The First Gulf War, and Guantanamo Bay. He left active duty to attend Harvard Business School and initiated his business career at Goldman Sachs on Wall Street. He also served as COO for a high-tech start-up in Israel and then as National Sales Manager for a premium sports apparel company on Long Island.

During the Islamist terrorist attacks on 9/11, Gurfein requested he be recalled to active duty. Once back in uniform, he saw combat action in both Afghanistan and Iraq. He retired after twenty-five years of service in the Marine Corps to focus on his family and to raise his young daughter.

Steve Israel is the current congressman representing NY’s 3rd congressional district. The district is comprised of northern Nassau county, the northwestern section of Suffolk County, and a small section of Queens.
